Festival Fashion Calendar: Kerala Through the Year

Vishu gold, Onam ivory, wedding-season silks — dressing along Kerala’s festive calendar.

Festival Fashion Calendar: Kerala Through the Year — PRINTARA Journal

Kerala’s calendar is generous with occasions to dress for. Here is our styling almanac.

Vishu (April)

The festival of golden beginnings — konna yellow and gold-toned kasavu feel made for the morning kani. New clothes (kodi) are traditional; a mustard cotton saree is a beautiful, budget-kind choice.

Onam (Aug–Sep)

Ivory and gold, no contest. This is kasavu’s championship season — book blouse stitching three weeks ahead; every tailor in Kerala is drowning by Uthradam.

Wedding Season (Nov–Feb)

Silk weather at last. Jewel tones — peacock, maroon, emerald — photograph richly in winter light, and heavier weaves finally make climatic sense.

Temple Festival Season (Jan–May)

Pooram crowds mean cotton. A handloom saree or mundu in light colours keeps you elegant through a 38-degree elephant procession.
